E129 Rouge allura AC

E129 Rouge allura AC"This additive is concerned by a study suggesting a possible link between the consumption of azo dyes, associated with the preservative sodium benzoate (E211), and hyperactivity in children. In a report specifically devoted to this study known as the Southampton study, the European Food Safety Authority (Efsa) somewhat mitigates the conclusions. Nevertheless, the results provided by this study show a significant impact on specific individuals sensitive to food additives in general or dyes in particular. Foods containing E129 are required to state ""May have adverse effects on activity and attention in children"". A few reactions such as asthma or hives have been reported, but there is no conclusive evidence of induction of allergic reactions by the consumption of this colorant."
