E968 Érythritol

E968 Érythritol"Erythritol is a polyol naturally present in certain fruits and vegetables or in fermented foods such as pears, grapes, melon or soy sauce. It is a bulking sweetener and flavour enhancer. Its sweetening power is about half that of sugar. Its caloric value is also lower. It is not cariogenic and it causes a lower rise in blood sugar levels. It is used as a sugar substitute in foods with reduced energy value or without added sugars. It is also used as a flavour enhancer since 2015 in light or sugar-free soft drinks. Co-products of the degradation of this additive can cause intestinal discomfort such as diarrhoea and flatulence. However, erythritol is better tolerated than other polyols. However, products containing more than 10% must still be labelled with the statement ""excessive consumption may have laxative effects"". No Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) has been set as it is considered safe."

Examples of products for use
